We're a Toronto-based Gypsy Jazz band that features a repertoire of traditional Gypsy music ("Jelem, Jelem", "Cona Seemus") and original songs by Michael T Butch ("Gypsy Mama", "Nassau Street"). Have a look around and listen to a few of our songs!

July 22, 2008 - New Website, New Photos, New Gigs Our site has a new look! We weren't exactly fans of the "dusty parchment" theme either, and we're pretty sure this is an improvement. Agree? Disagree? Let us know. Thanks to the efforts of our dedicated fans, we have some new pictures up in our gallery. These were badly needed, so thank you! We could still use more though. If you have any pictures of the band that you would like to share, please get in touch on the Contact Us page. The Gypsy Rebels have been a very busy band lately, with several shows each week. This Sunday we will be playing two gigs for Pedestrian Sunday in Kensington market, from 3 to 6 outside of Lola's then from 7-8 on Augusta. Come on out and see us play, have a beverage, and experience the raucus Kensington market culture! And as usual, we're playing at our home bar The Press Club this Thursday. May 12, 2008 - Europe Bound Michael is on his second trip to Europe in less than 6 months, promoting the release of our upcoming album Between Worlds... and probably having the time of his life in the process. It's looks like we'll be simultaneously releasing the album on CD and also on iTunes, thereby cornering the market on credit-card wielding computer-savvy gypsy music lovers everywhere. Anyway, until Michael returns at the end of the month, we don't have any shows planned. Also, it looks like we'll probably get some airtime on CIUT radio in the coming weeks as the Gladstone Hotel promotes our gig on June 6. April 11, 2008 - New Songs and Gladstone Hotel Tonight, the Gypsy Rebels play the Gladstone Hotel! This venue has a great atmosphere, a big Friday night crowd, and should make for an all round awesome evening. We've also posted our latest material from the studio. Jelem Jelem is now on our playlist, as are Sostache, Gaga Gelee, and better versions of Gypsy Reggae and From Your Eyes. March 21, 2008 - New video posted: Sili Grada Our videographer Dave Murray has finished footage he shot of us playing Sili Grada live last fall. By popular demand, this video is full-length! November 18, 2007 - Posted new song: Nassau Street Streaming music is back to our site and we've posted a new original song "Nassau Street" from our live album recorded at the Distillery. October 27, 2007 - Streaming Songs Posted Today Michael left for Germany, armed with 10 demo copies of our album: Live at the Distillery. Five of the tracks are now available for you to listen to using the player at the bottom of this page or on our Music page. Enjoy! Feedback is always appreciated. October 26, 2007 - Michael's trip to Germany Michael is leaving for a 2 week trip to Germany on Sunday to drink beer and charm ladies in a new country. And to promote the band's upcoming CD's, Between Two Worlds and Stop and Listen. The bad news is we won't be playing gigs while he's away (see event schedule below). The good news is he needs a live demo album for the trip, so we should have some music available on the site to listen to by the end of the weekend. October 25, 2007 - First video posted on YouTube Our first official video is now up on YouTube! We performed Jelem, Jelem on Baldwin St earlier this summer and our videographer Dave did a great job putting this together - thanks! Let us know what you think - leave a comment in our guestbook or on the YouTube video. |
